they dont "need" it.... however they do "want" a lot of water movement in order to keep them happy
Very good answer. A lot of loaches do hail from fast flowing waters so depriving them of what they are comfortable at, would be very cruel for them.chesterthehero;2939496; said:

Mine swim in the outflow of the return. They also stick themselves to the bottom intake on the overflow box, they're weird like that.

A lot of loaches do, but for the most part Clown Loaches do not fall into that category.
As long as 02 requirements are met, there is no need for a powerhead.
