Do Columbian sharks change COLOR???

Its funny you say that, because i just recently added salt to my tank(1teaspoon per gallon), and thats when i started noticing the color change.

I also have naturally hard tap water(where i live) and so the Ph is a constant battle(it usually reads just below normal). Im actually looking into a safe way to soften the water in my tank without dumping a bunch of chemicals in my tank(not sure if i can). Not a big fan of the chemical balancing act, that can be tank maintance.Any ideas let me know.:)
