I bought three compressips yesterday, two females and one male (they where used for breeding by previous owner) about 15 - 17 cm. They going in my 6 ft by 3 ft tank with my red belly pacu, oscar , seven young silver dollars, synodontis, male and female convicts, polyptrus, one male peacock, pleco. Will any of my fish loose their eyes?
I heard this isn't really true, but thought I just need to check. What would cause them to bite eyes? What could I do to prevent it? At the moment everyone seems fine, getting along just great.

I had one that bit off the pelvic fin of my sulphur head. Never grew back. Ive heard Some are insanely mean.

I don't recall hearing of any actually going after the eyes of other fish in captivity,it may just be tendency of wild fish.I have had a few over the years and they were pretty much peaceful, gotta admit though that they have one of the awesomest trade names.

Ive also had these for years on and off and ive actually found them to be the pansies of my tanks. Ive kept them with sa and ca and they have never caused problems.

ya they seemed pretty peaceful. Besides chasing each other, they show no aggression. Thanks for your responses.

One more question, do these guys readily eat pellet food? they seem to gradually pick up interest in them, try a nibble or two then leave it. Haven't really seem them eat. Are they fussy fish when it come s to eating?

I think they're given that name because they mainly go for their PREYS eyes. They don't actually go after any cichlids eyeballs when fighting, just the smaller fish it preys on. I had one and fed it feeders and it'd bite their heads off most the time (I didn't feed them feeders as their main diet btw and I know the risks of that). They don't always go after their preys eyes and heads though...sometimes they will leave their prey to die after catching and crippling them...they're known to be cruel to their prey
