Do dats absolutely need to be in brackish water?

My lfs has a couple of little guys (1" or so) and I would like to pick them up, but my grow tank is not brackish and there are fish in there that will not handle brackish water.

Any thoughts??

AT like brackish water... all others like freshwater...

MY lfs that i get Indo babies from put them in water in between FW and BW.. I bring them home and tranfer them to FW.

Thanks.

Is there any way to tell if a baby Dat (1"-1.5") is going to be stable. I was guessing no, but if anyone knows what to look for I would love to see what you have to say.

Just in case you haven' noticed...these will be my first Dats.

you can tell if theyre stable if they are yellow with black perfect stripes.. Mine(all 6 babies) change their coloring all throughout the day.. so mine are not usually stable, whatever though someday i think they will be.:headbang2 :headbang2 and i like them regardless..

when you go to catch a dat and they change colors... thats not stable, but eventually it MIGHT be stable. try to find one that keeps his colors all the time and you wont have to worry about it.

$20 for 1" dat... eh... normal. i paid that much at some LFS. ive paid $13 a piece. some people on the forums have paid a lot less and some have paid a lot more. ask them if they will do a bundle deal... pick up a few... you wont regret it. very fun and interesting personality fish. they are like dogs... as soon as they see you walking near the tank they will all come to you and crowd around begging for food. well mine do at least and i feed them twice a day.

most dats will at some point be unstable, just be careful with them and make sure to give them a safe place to be... like a cave or a PVC pipe :D:D:D

20$ cant go wrong... there more expensive online thru sponsors here.. scoop up as many as u can, i got 2 for 20$ a piece and they both died... they had parasites or sumthin, the store lost 8 of the 12 that arrived in the store.. i figured i could try and save em,

I got 4 from another guy for 10$ a piece, i was pumped.. and now i harass this dude everyday to find me more... my 6 IT's and 2 NTT's are not enough!

I really want a small Widebar...like 2.5" - 3" but i dont see it happeneing...
Regardless get any Dat you can theyre friggan cooooool $hit!:headbang2
