I have seen several species of Pirhana on this forum and I am wondering if the different forms school together.

Piranhas in the Pygocentrus genus are naturally schooling fishes. However, it's always a risky business because piranhas are cannibalistic. You also will have a hard time adding new fish to an existing school.

There are some species in the Serrasalmus genus that school, but most don't and will tear each other apart.

I meant in the wild. Are different species native to the same regions of SA?

Not from what ive seen, i have a very good documentary on piranha, its 573 megs so i can email it to you, do you want me to post it on bearshare for you?

I had a shoal in a 200g....Consisting of 5 adult reds and 1 sub Caribe....Unfortunately after the tank's second month of service, someone cracked it and the tank burst...I had a buddy who bought reds from me..He kept a gold p with some reds....

Its a difficult task owning Pygocentrus Piranha because you could have a nice mellow tank for months and P's doing well, no signs of aggression, then next morning you turn the lights on and a head of a £100 Piraya is sitting at the bottom of your tank.

Unless you have a good supply of cheap P's like RBP's, its always tuff unless you have a monster tank where they can hide if hit.

I sold a lot of 9"+ Piraya, big Caribe and 10"+ Reds to a guy in London, but his tank was 660 UK Gallons with 8 powerheads in it. Amazing site and he never lost a fish due to the space they had.

Sounds like it's possible but you have to keep a careful eye...Am I right?

ive had tern, caribe and reds together and never lost a fish. just keep plenty of filtration, feed them well and in my experience it worked.
