Hi,

Do goldfish eat pond snails? Reason I ask is,I see a decrease in the amount of snails I have. I also find empty snail shells in the sand. And sometimes I have witnessed one of the goldfish mouthing a snail, but have not actually seen it eat one.

These are just a few common goldfish, I bought them as feeders to cycle a tank.

They can but you also have to consider that goldfish will grab any food when an opportunity arises thus can also likely deprive the snails their much needed nutrition in order to survive.

Yes, I have noticed my goldfish eat snails. They kind of such the insides out. They don't swallow the hole thing.

True, these goldfish are pigs, they are living like kings right now. They do hog all the food, but at night I drop in some food for the snails.

Yeah thats what I saw. The goldfish was mouthing the snail as if it was trying to suck it out of the shell. I also have not been noticing any eggs from the snails, I bet the goldfish are eating those too.
