I have a 55gal tank and have 9 red bellies . The are only life 1 to 2 inches right now...Let me know if there are to many in my tank, or should I sell some when they get bigger?
hi i also hawe 9, they are only 2.5" but when they get bigger you hawe to go down to 5. i am going to keep 3 when mine get bigger, but i hawe alitelbit smaler tank, 47,5gallon(180liters)
3 or 4 in a 55g as adults, once they get about 6" 5-6 will start to crowd, they eat each other if crowded so if you wait to long the problem solves itself.
yea if u want to upgrade them ur going to need something bigger....maybe a 125....length is much better that height when it comes to p's.....the dont swim at the top very much
Agreed, Ps (and most aggressive animals for that matter) will let YOU know when they are too crowded. Once you notice one or more getting beat up, you will know it's time for a larger tank. I think at that age they may stabilize their own population through cannibalization WAY before overcrowding becomes a problem... Just keep an eye out for aggression and be ready to move a few (or lose a few). Best of luck.
Oh damn!! That's too many in a 55gal. Get a bigger tank or cut down on the number of ps you have. If you like get a solitary serra. I had a sanchezi in a 30gal for about 2 yrs until I had a major blackout and didn't have any support gear for my tank. Get a sanchezi or irritan they don't get too big and can stay in a 55gal for life.
