So earlier this year I got, QT'd and combined my 'old' zebra pleco trio with three new ones. I set them all up in a 20 long tank with several caves and tons of hiding spaces. I did water changes, plenty of food, and I kept the lights off save when doing maintenance because that's what breeders suggested to do.

I decide to rearrange the rockwork today and find only 4 plecos. My oldest male is alive. The other two are gone.

It might be consolation that I have no idea how old they were; I got them from a guy who bred cichlids and kept them in an unheated tank with cichlid fry, and HE got them in a trade with a guy who got them pre-ban. So maybe it was natural age death. Or not. I'll never know.

No bodies? I cleaned out my pleco tank and sold the fish. I took out all the rocks and caves. Left the tank running with a pair of shelldwellers in it. 2 days later i looked inside to check out the shellies and i found two plecos.... go figure
