Hey guys,

I found this guy a LFS covered with ich and fungus 2 weeks ago. The clerk said he was going to throw it away n i asked if i could have it. Lucky me he said yes and i nursed the little guy back to health in 2 days lol. Now that some time has passed and hes gotten comfortable with his new home im trying to see what kind of severum i have. The clerk said its a "red spot" which is possible, but from what iv read i doubt im that lucky.

What do u guys think?

Im sorry for the not so intense pics. The lil guy moves and hides a lot and hates light.

just a side note, the orange stripes are much more vissable, u cant tell with the camera. But its just the ones on his face that are orange on a yellow background

This looks to be a Heros efasciatus sp. 'gold'. And based in the intense facial markings for only being a few inches, I would guess a male.

And don't worry about the pictures. Mine don't like the camera either. LOL

Red Spot Severum. Good job saving it! I just bought one for $35 that looks about the same size.

Thanks guys! So at this size what should i feed him? I have hikari cichlid gold but the pellets are "large" size so its to big for him, lately all iv been giving him is flakes and he shares shrimp with the avocado puffer. Also how big should he get? I know the wilds get to 10"~ but im not sure for these

As for feeding a couple of high quality small pellets like New Life Spectrum or Omega 1. Should probably separate from puffer as soon as you can. Severums should have a higher plant base diet so easy on the shrimp. Size will probably be about 8" in captivity. BTW, males tends to have worm markings on the face. Good score!

Keep an eye on that tank because he may not be that safe with the puffer either.

He was just going to throw him out? This is what I cant stand about some people.

Good save man! That fish looks fantastic.
