i have a few questions about oxygen inside my 10 gal tank, i have a aquaclear 50 right now and the water level is alittle more then one finger below the rim. the filter gives off bubbles on the top of the surface but i dont know if its enuff, my tempaure is at around 78 degrees. this is a new tank and has not been cycled yet (2nd day) if two fish wasnt doing anything sitting on the gravel then i change 10% of the water and they swam around more, so just woundering if i have enuff oxgen inside my tank or do i have to but another air pump.

you have more than enough aeration, no need for an air pump. the fish are sitting on the bottom because of ammonia levels, that's why they started to swim around after you did a water change, you lowered the amount of ammonia in the water. try taking out the fish and putting them into an established tank and doing a fishless cycle.

I am having very similar problems.. My tank is much older but it also hasn't been used in almost 3 years until recently. I do have as well a 10G tank (until i can afford a 20+) I like to think that I am trying to provide well for the fish i have but it seems that only 2 can survive in the tank.. none of the fish I've tried to keep were very large and at most i had 5 In there. All where a small size but Still i am down to two.. I've decided to not get any more until i get the bigger tank.. Last time i had the water checked they said the Ammonia was a "little" high but recommended i just stir up what was in the gravel so my filter could pick some of it up..

So if i have no other established tank to swap the fish into to clean this one out what would be best for me to do.. I really don't want to lose any more fish.

if you don't have the bacteria in the filter to process the ammonia then stirring up the gravel isn't going to do squat, a water change is the only way to remove the ammonia in an uncycled tank.

No I don't have any Bacteria in any wear.. They never said anything about adding any or even mentioning it.. As far as changing the water I Haven't like taken the fish out and changed all the tank water no... As the tank gets low I add a gallon of distilled water and with the next gal i planned to add just the smallest pinch of aquarium salt as I'm sure its low on the light salt content I was told the fish needed.. Sadly I can't remember the name of one of my fish I know its a golden something but i don't have any pictures of him either. the other one is a Golden Dojo Loach and i would say its almost 2" long now. I usually feed twice a day a decent pinch in the morning and in the evening.. not night but evening a little more than in the morning.. crushed up. I do realize that I'm just a beginner in this and i most likely am doing some things wrong but i would rather be corrected than continue bumbling about especially when i get a bigger tank.. .. I'm going to guess that i need a ammonia conditioner or the bacteria..you mentioned... .. Or should i go get several gallons of purified/distilled water (I'm told theres nothing you can to do the local tap water to allow fish to survive in it) and put the fish in a bowl or something to change all the water..

there are no bacterial additives you can get that will work except bio-spira, and that is expensive. best thing to do now is daily 1g water changes, don't use distilled water, it's too pure enstead use bottled drinking water(make sure it says reverse osmosis on the label somewhere) and 1tsb of epsom/aquarium salt per 5g or as much a 1tsb/2g. you don't want to take the fish out and change all the water because it's very stressfull, partial water changes are fine. and most fish can easily adjust to tap water conditions as long as the parameters on ok, you'd need to test and get some specific numbers to know. cut your feeding down to what the fish will eat in about a minute or less once a day, you just need to make sure they both get some food, any extra is just more ammonia in your water that is going to be damaging to your fish.

that sucks for you, not only did they sell you a fish that is going to become unsuitable for your tank(dojo loaches can hit 12"+ and prefer cold water, very suseptable to bacteria infections in warm water) but they also didn't make sure you had a suitable tank at home or didn't care. unfortunately this is way too common, when you find a store where the people ask you tons of questions before they sell you a fish it's a good thing, pay attention to what they're asking and answer honestly and ask them any questions you have, use common sense about what their replies are, again you might find a store/person who doesn't care or really know anything trying to pass off as if they do, don't take any one persons advise as 100% true unless you know the person well, trust them and are absolutely sure that they know what the hell their taking about, always a good idea to double check your info to make sure it's correct before acting on it. patience is one of your most important tools and will help you become a successful aquarist, hasty and uninformed descisions can cause a lot more problems then they're worth.

yea, but unless you get it from a store(where it might be expired/useless from being exposed to heat) shipping is expensive because you usually have to overnight it to avoid the risk of it hitting some hot weather on the trip over or getting too cold.
