I had a black PVC pipe in my tank for along time with my channel cat. I redid the tank and took out the pipe cuz now i want to see him more often. He just hide all day which i hated. So now i remove all caves and left fake plants flowting around the edge. Is this ok for my cat fish? Or do i have to have caves for them? his about 10inch now

Most catfish are noctural by nature. Therefore, they will hide during the day. However, some catfish can easily adapt to life without cover.
Lol its hard now but when i went to hang the light over to moon light i found him with his head in a hole.. Not stuck but look like he was tring to get out to the light. i have a small cave he can kind of stick his head into. it looks funny for his size. Thank im going to see how he is over the week.
