I have a drilled reef ready tank with sump which ive aimed to get the turnover rate to x10. It houses 2 Peacock bass, small plec, pangasius cat and a snakehead.
I use a white filter floss/pad in two sections, first, soon as it overflows and another section in the sump before it hits the media. I change these two compartments roughley twice a week so i was wondering wether i would need a canister or not beens as im filtering the water as it overflows?
thanx

The tank has a built in corner overflow which has a plastic plate covering the overflow, which draws water in through 10 vents. so the whole corner from top to bottom draws water and debris through it!!
thanx

Personally, I wouldn't. I have 2 90g with overflows - one uses a wet/dry trickle filter with bioballs, the other uses a sump that I have filled with lava rocks. I have no problems and seems to be filtering just fine.

At 10X turnover, I don't think you will need too. A regular gravel vac schedule should help keep mid level debis under control.

X2. Other than for the sake of redundancy I dont see the need.
