Do i need a UV light?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
should help to kill parasites/bacteria/viruses/fungi that feeders might be carrying. I just ordered a coralife turbo twist 12x ($220) for my big tank to make sure my water is super clean for my fish.

I have a 36watt on my 240 and I have no idea what effect it has on my fish, but everything seems healthy haha but then again I got it for free so i have nothing to lose but a few good bacteria haha

If you do weekly water changes it's kind of redundant. I suppose it's useful in certain situations, especially considering the live food part of the equation, but I've personally never found the need. To each his own I suppose.

It will help with parasites since you feed live...I would recommend that you try to get all ur fish off live btw...

I think saying that it will help with parasites is a misnomer. It's not effective enough to kill or rid a tank of ich. It doesn't work with flukes or bacterial infections. I find them to be a waste of money that is spent on better husbandry and preventative techniques.

I might suggest putting that money into a quarantine system to avoid more issues.

I was going to get a UV but then instead spent the money on a guppy breeding tank to have feeders for my oscar tank as treats. That way I know the fish are clean and I dont have to worry about any ridealong diseases from the feeders...

Waste of money IMO. Never used on and probably never will, except on our koi pond to control algae/green water.

Cool. thats what i thought....not much effect. Still gona put it in cuz i allready have it and it might help if something happens and i have to skip a weekly water change.

I dont feed live fish....meal worms, crickets, deli shrimp, and harki pelets. I could switch over to all pelets any time. anyone herd issues with meal worms or crickets. I quarinten the crickets and feed them carrots for a week before they go in the tank.
