hi i just got a new african bullfrog and was just wondering wether i need a uv light to go above his tank as its in a darkish place so i don't know wether a uv light will make him too hot or just to get a normal light!! please can someone help

thanx

a UV light shouldn't make him too hot. He doesn't necessarily require it, but he will benefit from it. If nothing else, it'll will give him a better day/night cycle and improve his coloration.

Mine have normal electric light... And will go outside, probably tomorrow..

Since they ( as most other frogs ) are mainly "nocturnal " what I was told ( am a herp beginner ) is that they do not need uv's...

it is true that most frogs are nocturnal but how often do you see bullfrogs(most aquatic dependant frogs) out in the light. i know african bullfrogs aren't very aquatic but i still think that it won't be harmed by a UV light, it will probably benifit from it.

Don't know about benefiting, they won't be out basking because of it. As said it might improve the day/night cycle... but it would probably shy away from the light if it could anyway. I personally wouldn't bother or just move it to somewhere it got a bit of natural daylight.

I agree only be careful that thier enclosure doesnt over heat from the sunlight. ;)
