I have a 30 gallon hex tank with a powerhead and a decent filter. I was wondering if there was enough oxygen exchange with such a small surface of the water. Do you guys think i need to put an air pump in there or not?

Probably not but it definitely wouldn't hurt to add one. They're relatively inexpensive as well.

As long as there is enough water movement at the surface, you don't need an airpump.

Unless your way overstocked, you don't need one. Are your fish gasping at the surface?

You should be fine as long as the surface water is moving.

I like a lot of air in my tank, I am a bit overstocked and my fish seem to breathe better with a airstone. If you have small fish/ low stock you might be OK

I don't believe you need one but do you "want" one. Even if it doesn't help a bit it certianly won't hurt anything except adding a few pennies a year for the electric bill.
