so i have a 1 gallon with one crystal red shrimp that has about 20 spiderplants, philodendrons, red mangroves etc. i dont ever feed the tank its been going a couple months with pond snails. the shrimp has only been in there a couple days. i throw dying leaves into the water and the spiderplants tend to kill a root for every new root they put out. between the sources of decaying vegetation do i need to feed the shrimp? i plan on adding allot more in the future. and can shrimp live off things like alder cones and softened almond leaves forever? i dont want to do target feeding in such little water volume if possible.

It wouldn’t hurt to throw in an occasional pellet so it gets something a little different, but the plants and any dead snails should be providing all the food it needs.

Shrimp king complete 2-3 times a week, snow pops mixed in, Bactor AE every day. Have just under 50 adults and well over a hundred little ones right now.

is this in a 1 gallon? or a bigger tank?
i did not have success in the one gallon and concluded it was too small. im tempted to try tiger shrimp or because i hear they come from more of a marsh/swamp like environment. a snails death mightve caused bad water chemistry and i might be wrong to attribute the cause of death to tank size.
