I really like the looks and aggression you get from a snakehead, but is he compatible with my other fish? I have a 7 inch Jack Dempsey Cichlid, and a red tail catfish also 7 inches. My tank is 85 gallons and 6 feet long with plenty of room to swim. Also are there different kinds of snakehead fish?

you cant have a snakehead in the u.s. legally. also you should probably do more research on the rtc

i wouldnt if i was u. bad enough u have a red tail that is defently going to eat that jd in due time. not like there will be much hiding room in that 85. redtail might eat snakehead snakehead might nip at red tail. both could cause glass bashing and stress to you and your fish lol.

redtails gonna eat the JD and then it's gonna eat the tank LoL

Unfortunately as stated no snakehead for you.

bowfin is the closest. pike cichlids or bichirs if you like the body shape.

are there any fish that are similar to the snake head but are legal?

I always think of wolf fish as being kind of similar too.

And yeah, you're going to need a tank at least 10x the size of the one you currently have to house an RTC for life.

I say shoot for a bowfin or wolf fish. Either way they act similar to most snakeheads... and they're legal.
