Has any one here built or considered building a do it your self canister filter ? I can see where it would be nice in not needing to drill or set up an over flow box and avoiding all the problems asscotiated.
The only thing I can see that would be a deterent would be what to use as the canister it self. At work one of the things we build is closed drain systems for reefer trailers that haul seafood.
we somtimes use 55 gallon plastic barrels I can see ussing a similar setup, there is a type of toggle bolt with a barrel nut on it that fits into a slot that is hinged much like on an air filter housing on your car I could see using somthing like this on the lid in order to get a water tight seal.
I would only consider building a canister filter if it were to cost less than ,have more turn over than and hold way more media than an Fx5.
