Do Kenya gold cichlids need a more heavy plant or carnivore diet?

From what I've read they are micro predator feeding on insect larvae in wild but sources do state to provide some veggie in diet so I'd say base it on protein with a mix of veg couple times a week hope this helps

I've been feeding them algae wafers and they were going at those more aggressively than my cichlid pellets so I was worried I got the wrong food for them

I think varied always good man just mix it up so never just based on one side. I imagine fish are like us some like same foods more than others
