I'm thinking of getting some lampreys, does anyone have experience in keeping these fish? If so, do they make good aquatic pets?

They're creepy, like a whole new level of 'predation', attaching oneself to another fish, it's like why would you even consider petting one?

Ugh. Well from your username you seem to like creepy fish, my aunt said they had some in the Seattle aquarium years ago. Other then that never heard of people keeping them as pets. You would need to go out a buy a big fish for them to swarm and attach to.. even then that fish will be freaking out hard and hitting the tank all over the place

There are some aquarists have successfully kept them in private aquariums. Non parasitic lamprey larvae may be your bet but you won't see them for many years and parasitic lamprey can be on diet of fish fillets and frozen shrimp. But the laws will prevent you from owning the lampreys.

I've actually always wanted one as well, just dont have any spare tanks or means to get hold of one, otherwise i'd be all over them...

Non-parasitic sea lampreys are fairly large and in the open a good amount of time. However, they're very difficult to maintain in aquaria due to instinctually times salinity changes. As stated above, parasitic lampreys remain unseen until they need to condition themselves for spawning. They have all the makings of winning the most boring aquarium award.
BTW, all species of lampreys are illegal to possess in your state.

I want to add more to your statement. Ammocoetes (larval form) do well in aquariums but needs some detritus to survive then you may not see them for years before they became adults. Bad news: adults of lamprey species don't live long.
