today i got two clown kife fish (3iches) and my lima(8-9inches) ate one and his stomach got big and now a skin like thing is on him. is this ok
(now i am saying to my self what was i thinking)

Yes they do shead there skin but not as a rule usally when there are a readding of ammonia or nitrite they will shead skin. So after a big meal they will produce more so that will probably be you problem just keep an eye on your levels and things will be fine.

its shedding mucus. this something more regular or common in lima shovelnoses than other catfish. there isn't any conclusive reason known for it that i could find on the internet but its nothing that should worry you.

The one I use to have shed this mucus quite often. He ate it every time too.

The reason they produce more mucus is because there is somthing in the water they are thrying to protect them self from usually ammonia or nitrite but some times it will be other chemicals in our water ie metals or chlornies but as said nothing to worry about as long as its not a constant thing;)
