I just got a new Mbu and after adding him to the tank I had a nitrate spike after a feeding and it caused him to sit in a corner for the last two days. I have been doing 50% water changes for the last few days and added a fluidized sand filter good for 300g and everything has stabilized. Ph 7.6 nitrate ammonia and nitrite are all un readable by my master test kit. temp 78. Well mr mbu has perked up and is swimming around the tank and ate a snail. He is leaving the ghost shrimp alone for now. Anyways I noticed what looked like he was shedding skin and could not find any info if this is something I should be worried about or if it is natural for them to go thru this transition. I got a pic but it is not that good. What it looks to be skin shedding is the white stuff on his back. Sorry for the long posts but I am a nervous daddy

Was there some ammonia? Could be the sloughing off of skin from ammonia/nitrite burn. I'd add Melafix to help heal.

Is it a new fish? Ive noticed mainly puffers will get that filmy stuff on their skin after a long shipping process or if added to a new tank, it could just be stressed a small water change usually clears it up. Nice Mbu! Heres mine...he had white film stuff when I first got him also but I just did water changes and added salt and he was fine, as long as they are active and eating then thats a good sign.
