at 3 in the morning i had a tank disaster. i had just dropped a cutthroat trout and a crawdad in my tank and at three in the morning my new gem was being eaten by the crawdad luckly no other fish were hurt

Crawdad-1 Trout-0
Sorry about your lose. Crawdads are highly aggressive and will eat other fish at night while they sleep if they are not fed properly. They usually hunt at night while fish sleep so he caught himself an easy meal.
Ive had all kinds of juvi's grow up with my crawdad. They know to avoid him and I keep him well fed. expecially at night. I also dont feed him live food, so hes not inclined to eat any fish. Live and learn though
Glad to see the crayfish win for once :D

I used to have some crawfish in my native setup with some leftover feeders from another tank, they tried to catch them but never had any success, but I kept them well fed so that I think was the key. Now my warmouth sunfish made quick work of those feeders, one night and one huge belly told the story lol

my money would be on the trout dying, then the crawdad went for the cleanup.

x3. i have 6 crawdads in 4 different tanks. only time mine has eaten something is if it died and the cray found it. they can and will attack fish. but only if starved really. why would my crayfish wanna chomp on my fish when feed him shrimp pellets everyday? i have them in my fry grow out tanks. as long as they have a place to hide and a shrimp pellet at least once a day, i dont have attacked fish.

i would suggest if possible to get the smallest or youngest cray you can to get them to grow up in an aquarium environment. if you just go and pluck one out of a river full grown it probably wont be nice to fish. also marble crays are supposed to be alot nicer in aquarium environments. but ive only had common crayfish from the area. all wild caught. just my 2 cents.

possibly but i had a cray in my native tank. it claimed a darter and a dace. both where alive.

They will definitely wipe out some fish, but depending on the size of the trout and the craw would be the outcome on this one.
