So I've got a 18" RBP currently in a monster community tank. I have the opportunity to get a 12" RBP for free. My question is will my pacu be happier with another pacu or are they okay by themselves?
I have been doing lots of research on these guys since I made the mistake of rescuing a 3" baby.
From what I have gathered no they do not need friends. When bigger they tend to not need each other as much. From what I have read in the wild they are often found swimming around alone not a shoaling fish or schooling fish. I think they are more like Bass in the way that they all tend to hang out in the same parts of ponds and rivers but they don't need to be together. They just live amongst each other.
I think they might be more entertaining when kept in groups.
Unless you have a pond I would only keep one unless the other needs to be rescued. They eat SO MUCH! My 3" baby eats a lot its like a bottomless pit of a fish he is never full.

I do have a pond. And I actually got the second one. They both seem a lot happier, the problem is they're getting very aggressive in the 300 tank... I think they're going to be moving very soon. Lol
Eating....oh em gee!!! They literally are bottomless pits!! And they're picky too! Sometimes they like carrots, sometimes they hate them! It's like having little kids. And they eat as much as one too!! I thought my RTC ate a lot... NOPE. these guys will make me broke!
