I have 2 small 4" Payara (scombs) in my 55gal. The slightly smaller one has had some significant damage to its tail a few times in the past weeks. I treated it with melafix and it was healing up nicely from the first incident, but then this morning he was shredded worse. Melafix-ed the tank, but I don't know if the other Payara is doing it or if one of my well-fed polypterus are trying to eat it? What would you all guess?

I am guessing the Bichir - they do this...

Well now the question is which one? I have a Delhezi, Ornate, 2 Albino Senegal, and a Senegal. Even though the Ornate is the biggest, it is least active, and usually waits for something to swim into it before it bites.

looks like you guys figured this out already but for what it's worth, i had a yellow tail cuda(7") in my 75 with a small (3-4") ornate bichir and the cuda's tail kept getting shredded.Ornates are biters.

I put my money on the Bichir . Same thing was occuring at lfs with a redtail. Fins were shredded.
