Do pea puffers actually "puff up" like other puffer fish?

Yes they can, usually if you are nettin them out, however as with most puffer fish, it has to be really scared and/or upset to do it , so its good if you have one or more and you have not seen them puff.

Yay I have two right now and I have never seen them puff so I guess I'm doing something right!:D

Depending on who you talk to some say that puffing for them is like a heart attack for us. So you don't want them to puff. The freshwater puffers like the pea dont seem to puff up as often as the saltwater ones I've noticed but I'm sure they can.

yes they puff up the times when they puff and die is when they puff up with air and not water, they cannot expel the air and suffocate.
