I just baught a 2 1/2 inch peacock cichlid, i have no idea what kind but his color seems a little dull, but not dull enough to be a female. So i was jus curious do they color up as they grow?

If you just bought it, it is likely stressed out and trying to get accustomed to its new environment. Give it a few days. Color often fades when the fish is freaked out.

Yes, peacocks do color as they grow. Some color very early while still small and others must be bigger before they show their actual brilliance. When they are real small, it is almost impossible tell males from females (for some species). At 2.5", you shouldn't have that problem.

Can you post a picture?

should start showing color soon, make sure you are feeding him/her correctly with a premium food... Lots of water changes and hopefully you will see some color... GOOD LUCK

Good Looking peacock. Looks like a red shoulder. They get fully colored up at around 3" or so.

Yep, one of the Red line bred/hybrids. Just keep him well fed with quality food & good water quality. You'll be happy soon enough.

Nice german red, looks like one....good luck with him
