I was wondering if the Peruvian Altums like the ones John (Snookin) has for sale on Aquabid get tall like real Altums? What is the main difference in the iwo types? If anyone has purchased them I would love to see some pics. Thanks.

If they are altums they get tall and are demanding and fragile fish, have not head anything bad about Snookin yet, so I assume that they are what he says they are.

I would like to know the answer to that too. The size of them is quite large, I would be interested in seeing a shot that shows all of the fins "upright" to get an idea.

I think he is referring to the fact that these are "peru" altums rather than "Orinoco" altums. Orinoco are the only true altums, "peru" altums is a commercial name used (for fish that really only share the look, but are not strictly speaking true altums).

John told me they were 4" long, and 6" tall.

Yes thats what I was referring to. I want some Altums and although the Peruvian Altums are nice I don't think they get anywhere near as tall as the Orinoco true Altums. Just wanted some members that are keeping them to give me some feedback on them because they are way cheaper than the Orinoco guys.

true altums, if you can keep them alive, can reach 10-12" high. my tank was originally to be for altums but I got tired of waiting for someone who had them for sale. probably one of the hardest fw fish to find.

peruvian angels do get big but not as big as true altums do. my last altum that i sold was pretty big...body was palm size. look at R1_ridah altum.

Ok, thats what I wanted to know. I think I will wait it out for true Altums.

Very tall bodied, and slightly different stripe patterns. True altums also have a sharp "pinch" at the snout/forehead area

Notice the pointy snout and tall body shape of the True Altum
