I have been talking about my new tank for a cpl of weeks now. And now that father's day has come its on back order:swear: , or the guy forgot to order it. (getting too good a deal to complain too much though). Anyway, I have been noticing my Pike kind of hovering/swimming in the current from the filters. Would it be a good idea to add a cpl of powerheads to the new tank and give him a lil stronger current to swim in. I was thinking i could build a cpl of rock formations around them so that they dont just sit in the tank. What do you guys think

I don't think you can generalize it. It is an individual thing. And he migh lose the habit in a bigger tank. I wouldn't use a treadmill if I can climb a hill.

Some pikes do like current. I normally have a pretty good current goin in the tank, just for circulation and more oxygen. The thing might be that the pike isn't gettin enough oxygen so it swims in the current to help increase the amount of water flowing over its gills. Addin another powerhead will help though. I put a 1200gph water pump in my 125gal....lemme tell yaz that was A LOT of current. Only left it for a week cuz my filter was down, but the pikes were NOT happy...they were swimmin nonstop and you could see them cursing me...haha..so don't over do the current.

Definately think the powerheads are a good idea - not so much for a current, the extra oxygen is always a plus for the bigger fish. Some of our 'riverine' fish require it.
Our Pikes seem to like the bubbles/flow, sometimes hang there for fun....

I am getting a 150gal though i might go up to a 180 if the LFS owner will give it to me at the same price of the tank he promised me he would have on fri and is now on back order (as he has the 180 collecting dust on his sales floor).

go for the 180 anyway especially if you have the room!!! your pike will love the extra grow space and you can get more fish too. always aplus.:clap :headbang2
