do plecos and water lilies work?

I think it would depend on the type of "water lily." A well established Victoria amazonica or Victoria cruziana, with those spiky undersides, could probably deter a hungry pleco. If there are new shoots from a tropical water lillies (genus Nymphaea), they might be a tasty snack.
