I bought a pike like a couple of weeks ago, not sure which kind, and it hasn't started eating well yet. He won't go up to the surface for the pellets, only eats the occasional pellet that gets pushed down by the filter return. So he doesn't eat much at all but he does eat..

He's housed with 6 peacock bass, a silver arowana, 4 silver dollars and 4 geos. My guess is its the bass he's scared of.. He is a lot smaller than most of them, but not small enough to be eaten by them. Maybe the arowana could but im not sure.

What do you guys think? This is my 1st pike by the way. I love them

What size tank is he housed in & can you post some pics of the pike? I just picked up my first Sveni, He's in my 75gl with two r/d's, two j/d's & two clowns, their all juvi's exept for one of the devil's is a large male, they all get along well

Yea I don't know what species you have on anything, my sax pike is very reluctant to go to the top to feed, will come close for shrimp but that's about it. My dwarf pikes are more adventurous but I hope you don't have those in with your stock list

Some pikes wont eat pellets at all. Try some fish (smelt) from grocery chopped at small bits. But live feeder fish (tetras) are best.

Make some photos. Then we can ID fish and tell you, if this is normal behaviour. You might have Crenicichla sp. belly crawler. Belly crawlers cant swim, they don't have swim bladder.

I had one few years ago that was very shy first weeks then after he got comfortable he ate most of my convict fry lol and was happily eating pellets form the surface maybe just needs more time to adjust
