Im holding a SB texas for awhile and now he's as gentle as could be. Will he get rather nasty as he matures? Kinda starting to like the guy and am thinking of keeping him. He's living with some geo's and
4" clown loaches, blood parrots, and some buenos aires tetras. I have some neons in there as a trial thing and am wondering if they'll be history as he grows. I am assuming he'll eat the smaller neons, but will he turn nasty to his tankmates? He is young and still pretty small. He is probably th eyoungest and smallest cichlid in the tank.

How big is he? It depends on the individual fish but H. carpintis and H. cyanoguttatus are pretty mellow fish IMO. I guess you could call them semi-aggressive since they are cichlids. Being shortbody doesn't have anything to do with aggression. Unless it's a SB RT, that may be a different story.

SB texas are just inbred texas. They should be the same. But each individual fish can be different.

Hes about 2-3" right now. Thanks for the info. Dont know much about 'em other than he is really starting to grow on me. Real laid back and mild mannered to everybody in the tank.

Raising fish with their future tank mates at a young age seems to help with aggression issues. I don't think he will be a problem in the future, unless you introduce new fish or he decides to pair up with another fish lol.

With mine he oscasionally punks the Oscars and alway messes with the RTM. But hes not psycho like my old mota.
