About 8 months ago my very young Flowerhorn was determined to eat the Convict pairs babies. He wouldn't back off even with both parents tearing him up! He kept trying repeatedly to eat the babies. Needless to say, he got terribly torn up on both sides of his body, the entire length of his body. I treated him with Melafix and Pimafix and salt several times. Here he is 8 months later and getting bigger and bigger, but he STILL has awful scars and he never seems to grow new scales.

Is there something that will help? He's perfectly healthy. Just looks awful.

Yes, due to scarring, and especially burn scars, scales sometimes do not grow back.

Also if it was a bad wound they may grow back but in a different pattern. My large turq. severum ran into something in the tank and ripped a hole in his side. He recovered but the scales in that area are "out of line" so to speak...

Burt:)

Well that sucks! So this means he'll always look like crap. :( I love him evenso though. :)

I had a red terror that I brought back from basically dead. Butti really gave her a beating. Scales never recovered but she did so I was happy. Some of her fins never recovered either.

ripped off scales, yes. Ripped up flesh, no.

Well then I guess he'll have white spots for the rest of his life. sigh.

Thanks everyone.
