After reading Calgaryflames thread and his outcome and also the outcome of gshock I was wondering if smaller rays have less of a tolerence than bigger rays to salt. I'm talking more about our usual 1-4 pounds per 100 gallon treatments. I'm not up to the same standard of biological knowledge that many of our members have but have learned alot from readng and trail and error. I've never salted a pup tank or a pregnant ray tank so I'm not sure if less salt is needed in these cases to have the same affect as say salting a 24" ray. Being smaller would thier bodies not be able to filter the salt out the same as a larger ray?

I have used up to 2lbs/100G without any adverse effects on my pups (3.4-4.5") eating/living habits.
Now addressing what you were asking.
IMHO I don't think that 2+ lbs of salt / 100G is a good idea for pups, as I remember seeing a thread about how high salinity cause warts/blisters on the discs. It was later stated by a knowledgeable source that the rays lacked the capability to process the large amounts of salts for long durations....
resulting in the aforementioned.

knowledeable members who are very pro salting and some that are against the heavy
salting that is recommended. It confuses me as to who to believe and whose advice
to follow.
I did treat one pup with 1.5-2 lbs of salt (100g) for appx 2 weeks for its eyes being very cloudy
without any results except for very heavy breathing which worried me, so I stopped the
salt and treated with Binox, within 3 days it was 80% cleared up. Plus his breathing eased greatly.
Stopped treament after that and it cleared the rest of the way on its own.

The max I've ever used on a pup was 3 pounds salt to 100 gallons water. I cant remember the exact purpose of using salt that time, but I do remember I had left the water the way it was for 2 days before doing any water changes and it didnt have any ill effects on the pup. I wouldnt recommend more than that either though as I have seen some adult rays start acting out of the norm with high levels of salt like lifting front of disc, heavy breathing, etc etc, basically just the regular signs of stress.

I'm just wondering if I was doing a tonic on a tank with 6" rays or a tank with 24" rays would my salt dosage be the same for both or with the 6" rays could I get away with half the dosage to have the same effect.
