Do snails eat bamboo?

Will apple snails eat bamboo? I am thinking of putting one in my 1 gal betta setup at work to control algae. I have a small bamboo stalk in there, I don't want that getting chewed up. Any objections?

Is 1 gallon going to be big enough? I mean apple snails poop alot, or at least mine does.

I just want the thing to eat the algae. I would rather change water than scrub algae. I might get another apple snail and start a snail breeding ground in there.

As it turns out, the snails eat the algae off teh bamboo, but don't harm it.

I think a bamboo plant is too tough for a snail to pierce it's stem.
