do spots and odd patterns show when larger?

i was at a lfs and they had like 5 6in cls with spots, i bought one but later brought it back because he did not complete my pack of smaller loaches, but now on two of my loaches spots are appearing that were for sure not there when i got them. This is good because i now have my group of 21 and am looking for oddballs now, but in stores and the 1-3in size i am not seeing any spots.

I have one growing and it is growing a spot near the anal fin. Most clowns do develop new patterns as they grow.

ya my question got answer today at a lfs they had a separate tank for all the oddball patterns and were like and inch and under for 10$ so i didnt want to buy them, but im still tempted to just grow them out because some of there patterns were soo crazy

I've got several large fish in the 4-6 inch range with spots. I've had some smaller fish lose or gain spots or change pattern as they grew.
