Want to change my substrate from the white sand it currently is to a more earthy colored one. As I have some red tailed botia in with the sa/ca's I want to stick with something very fine lime sand. Not those gravel rocks. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

i think i did see darker color PFS,but it was a few years since i bought the bag at the store.maybe check the pool store websites:leslies or....

The above is damp sand, just after a rinse, I get it from a local abrasives company for about $5 per 50lb bag. He supplies pool companies, water filtration plants, etc

I used garnet sand similar to what Duane posted.

I also get it from an abrasives supply company. Super cheap, heavy enough that it sinks great when disturbed.

The only downside is that it took a lot of rinsing to clean.

Are you aware of any locations selling this stuff in the Boston area? I live about 25min from boston but would be willing to drive a decent distance if I could get 50lbs of the above pictured color for $5. I would pay that for even 25lbs
