i have a mated pair of small convicts in a 20 gal and i have 4 small asorted chiclids in my 55 gal and 2 4 in chiclids in there. there african and there is plenty of hiding spots in the 55 i have it set up as a malawi tank but do u think the small cons would kill the other small chiclids if i put them in the 55? thanks

IMO it would work if the convicts weren't a pair. Once they spawn they aren't going to like any other fish in the tank and they are going to kill fish or harass them to death. It gets even worse when the fry are free swimming and they take them around the tank in search of food.

Also depending on what type of malawis you have, they may get to big and eat the cons.

no like everyone said.......the cons would get too territorial and probaly kill the africans..........why not leave them in the twenty? i have a breeding pair in my 20gallon........

either keep them in the 20 or buy them there own 55 if you think they need more room............convicts will be too agressive as a pair and kill all the other fish to protect their babies.

yeah no, the cons will kill every thing as they will take over the tank due to teritory.

i agree that it probably will not work.
definitely not a 20. but in your 55, it is possible depending on the pairs personal temperament. my cons breed like nuts and have had numerous tankmates (sa/ca) throughout the years. never bothered anyone. only aggression is with each other or when defensive tactics are required. a gutshot straight draw really.

mating pair in a 50 gal with other fish. Won't work.
They will nip anything till it either kills them or they kill it.

20 gal is plenty of space for a mated pair. I have my pair in a 10 gal and they have plenty of room. they are only a couple inches tho. but still plenty of room and room for them to grow.

thanks
