I've had my group of polys for about 3 now. They used to eat earthworms and pellets, but now I drop food into their tank and they won't make a move to get it, even though its an inch from their face. Or even worse, a pellet will be an inch away and they'll turn around. I even had an earthworm hit one of my bichirs in the head and he still wouldn't try to eat it.

They used to eat all these foods and the water paramaters are good. I know bichirs go on hunger strikes, but it's just frustrating for them to be active and eating one week and lazy the next week. Ok, that's my rant :irked:

Nah I won't get pissed. Just gravel vac away the extra leftovers and try again another day :) Bichirs have personalities too, maybe they just don't have the feel of eating that day

Try bloodworms...mine cant seem to resist them

Try looking at the bright side, you don't have to chop up worms for a couple days lol

When I notice my bichirs are on a feeding strike, I stop feeding for two to three days.

me too.

i breed a lot of livebearers. I keep mine interested by about once monthly dropping in a dozen home grown livebearers for them to hunt. They never seem to lose interest in feeding time.

These are heatlhy, home grown livebearers, not store feeders...just to be clear.
