If you live in a humid climate, you need to be running a dehumidifier so improve the air quality in your fish room - at least that's what I do :) I'm really interested to see how many people here do. I know they are an electricity draw, but i have no option in my basement and my climate! :)

Do you? I do - check out the video below of my dehumidifier use description, plus a recommendation and brief review of Cascade canister filters:

Also, if your interested in my goldfish collection, check out the video below of my new Ranchu Goldfish and my brief review of penguin bio-wheel filters:

Note: I'm not a fish expert, but i play one on youtube. :)

I have never felt the need to run any type of dehumidifier (EDIT: except when I had the rubbermaid going with no lid). This may be because of the extremely humid climate I live in or it may be because I use glass tops on all of the aquariums that I have running at the moment, except for a 29g with minimal surface movement/evaporation. I have noticed a VERY significant increase in humidity when using my rubbermaid containers, so I'm sure I will see similar results when I get the 4'x4' 180g up and running. This will probably necessitate making some sort of lid, but we'll see when I get it going.

IMO and IME, a much more cost effective solution to the humidity problem in a small scale residential setting is to just use lids..

Piscine. Agreed. I really need to look into getting some glass tops. But tell me something, doesn't that compromise gas exchange at the surface, i.e. having tanks with glass tops? I've always wondered that? Because all of my tanks have so much surface water movement..

On my RR 75g, I have glass lids with no holes and a custom cut glass lid on the sump. My system is, for all intents and purposes, "sealed". Oxygen still finds it's way in through the cracks.

So how big of a dehumidifier are you running?
