I also need a dehumidifier since my 500 is covered with just egg crate. I need to get one and I was trying to see how safe the water is because it would be a cool way to setup a drip if you could get the right flow

Dont need to.
Biggest tank is 200 gallon, open top.
Total of 3000+ liter. Almost all open tops, except the channa tank.
My (living)room is 4 by 4,5 meter and has on the moment 20 terrariums in it.

This is debatable without scientific proof, but I def wouldn't do it. There are metal parts that the water is constantly in contact with, and these parts don't take long to start corroding. I'm sure a dangerous amount of heavy metal would build up in your water and cause health issues in a short amount of time. I do also believe that any impurities will be picked up as well.

Agreed!

Yes, i've run into the same windowless basement problem. Hence the dehumidifier.

Question, is the water the dehumidifier collects safe to add back into the tanks? I've wondered this since it is collecting moisture from the air, would it not condense impurities from the air as well?

Hello; Perhaps the water collected in the dehumidifier can be used to flush a toilet or water some plants. I use tank water from water changes to water house plants.

Great ideas!

I need to hard line my dehumidifier to my toilet. Or i need to hardline it to a holding tank for plant watering. winter project.

If it's as hot where you are as it is where I am, everything is a winter project right now. lol

What's your definition of "fish room"? I have my tanks in my living room which has central air. In that respect, there is a dehumidifier running but only as a by product of the CA not as a stand alone.

Hello; The central air, heat pump in my case, does remove moisture in warm weather but does not seem to do so in cold months. I also like to open up my house during the day as I am outside a lot during the warm months. I do run it on some nights when it is too hot or humid to sleep. The oil heat than I was accustom to is a hot heat that wolud dry the air in winter. The evaporation from my tanks was welcome then. But with the house closed up and the evaporation from the tanks in addition to cooking and other stuff, I may go to a dehumidfier. The extra electricity one will use in winter should translate to heat into the house and be somewhat of a wash with regard to operating expense. I am working to seal and insulate this house in hopes to raise the temp a bit next winter and be more comfortable. I also have several tanks sitting empty to be set up at some point.

I have about 1200 total system gallons and thought about getting one but installing a window unit along with central air has worked for me without a need for a humidifier for 4 years.
