Ok, so when people say if you're gonna get a monster fish you need a bigger tank but here's a fish which is living (or lived not sure) for 43 years in a tank like this ?

I say the fish is kind of stunted, but I heard that back in 1967 understanding of fish keeping wasn't great, so people didn't know much in regards to ethics as such, and it would be painful to be separated from a fish you had for so long.

True... in a way it might be sad that he's in such small tank but still he was kept for so long, healthy, well fed and he must've been happy, I believe :-)

Yea, I've seen Buttkiss before. A thread about him comes up every so often. Most say it's an extreme rarity for him to be as unstunted as he is. Personally I just think it's cruel to keep a fish in a tank so small he has to smashe his face against the glass just to turn around.

PS: Buttkiss died in 2011 at age 44.

is that a standard 125? plus he mentioned how popular they were at first in the sixties, and how for so many there wasn't enough large tanks for them, and that not many realized the size they grew to, so I think this guy done a pretty good job of keeping it alive IMO.

Well, I've seen people keeping oscars in a 20 gallon tank or even less and still living 3 years +, but yeah its not upto the 10 inch mark yet, but hey it might be gene defect right? cause the water quality is always kept in top shape.. as far as I know..

It's a 75. Fed him 20 feeder goldfish per day and had an eheim canister and a biowheel filter I believe.

I would of imagined if he he loved the fish as much as he said he did, he would atleast get it something larger than a 75, something good for him to live out his old age. I mean f****, he was 40 years old. Even looks like theres a bigger tank to the left of his in the video.
Sad IMO

I've seen this guy before. Just because it did make it to old age doesn't mean it lived happily or comfortably. Imagine having a dog in a crate barely bigger than its body for its whole life, definitely not something I would ever consider.
