some people believe that fish will grow to there maximum potential in a tank or wild. I disagree for the fact that every fish ive seen in captivity do not grow as large as the fish i see in the wild. example arows, clown knives, bowifns etc... are suppose to grow to 3-4 ft in length but ive never seen any member on here post a pic of there arow or clown at a size of 3 ft or a bowfin of 2 ft. Im not saying fish will outgrow there tanks. I just think that all fish in captivity has there growth stunted. here is a poll on what your opinoin is. do you agree or disagree. ty

I agree, but only when poor water quality is involved, or movement is restricted by size of the tank.

You havent seen a clown knife or aro over 3ft on this site? I have, many times. Johnptc has 3ft aro's and TLkmDN has a 3ft Clown Knife in his pond.

If you grew up in a locked room with a 4 foot ceiling, will you become a midget?

You can't stunt your fish due to tank size, but due to water quality. The water quality will obviously be bad if the fish is almost as big as its tank.

i dont consider a pond a fish tank. and id wouldnt mind seeing a tape measure on these fish you speak of. im sure if i lived in florida and had a huge pond then maybe they would be that size because thats basically being wild. I am strictly talking about your average tank of 300 gallons or less. this site says Arowana,
Silver Arowana,
Snow Arowana ?
Osteoglossum bicirrhosum 48"+
all the arow ive seen or kept are half this size

Oh Noes!

yet, people have had smaller fish that grow larger than their wild contour part... not monster, but larger. I think limiting it to a 300 whose turn around is less than 3 or 4 feet, of course it will restrict its growth...

I think tank size plays a minimal part in max growth. I will always say that water quality and diet are most important. But mainly water quality. Keep in mind that some of these fish they obtained the max sizes from could have been who knows how old, and aquarium hobbiests might keep them for half the time they can survive to in the wild without human involvement.

like other i agree it does affect it but does not limt it because people don't keep the water clean and the params right in the wild the eat alot more have alot more room and only the strong survive so the small fish and weak fish die or get eaten so fish grow larger in the wild for sure

BUT that doesn't at all mean fish can't get as big in captivity they just usually don't
