I have a 125 tall tank with extra large angelfish. I'm planning on getting some small heros notatus, but I know they'll get very large. Once they get large will they start picking on my angels?

I had a female heros sp atabapo female who went postal on other cichlids and so she got rehomed.

Nope not notatus, but I haven't observed any notable behavioral differences between the different severum species and variants myself.

The most aggressive severums I own are the mouthbrooders, H. severus or H. sp. 'Atabapo'. My notatus are similar to greens and golds... you'll get aggression during spawning and they may occasionally get pushy about food, but mostly they are passive and ignore non-severum tankmates. The smaller you get them, the better chance you'll have of socializing them. I know some people buy young severums and raise them out with more aggressive SA and CA cichlids, and you end up with more aggressive adult severums. None of mine are like that, though.

You should be fine as long as there's no spawning. And even then, they'll most likely just chase your angels rather than murder them. I've had mine in with wild Peruvian angels, and I've also kept single females in my discus tank, and I've never had any immediate problems. My females in the discus tank were hogging food and I eventually had to remove them, but it wasn't actually an issue of aggression.

My Atabapo's were nasty when they spawned. But it was only towards the third Atabapo male. They left everybody alone but him. I have kept angels with Severums many times over the years and have not had a problem.

Hey Alton, you should be fine, Are you getting them from about fish? I asked him if they were true Notatus but he didn't know for sure. Said they were marked wild spotted Greens. Does he still have alot of them in that tank?

Yes. I believe they are notatus since they match up with many photos I've seen of "notatus." He still has some.
