An island somewhere......
What do you think..... will it hold a 55 gallon acrylic tank on the shelf? Thinking about putting 2 on this rack..... one on bottom and one in the middle. This is the spec's on the rack.... rated at 600 lbs., each 55 gallon tank would be approx. 462 lbs. with water.

hmm, looks a little flismy, but if they say its rated for 600lbs.....

I know what you mean about the plastic little wedge around the shelf.... but the rating makes me wonder. This next picture is the same style, just not sure about the rating. Of course on either shelf there would be plywood across the shelf to support the acrylic tank bottom.

I have always wondered. Try it and let us know? 2x4s stand are just as cheap!

maybe its rated at 600lbs divided by each shelf (doubt it)
i dont know if id put my tank on that either
i have one of the same type in my basement and decided not to use it as a stand for my 55 right when i looked at it.

I work with these shelves every day and the way they work is that the more that's on there the stronger the shelf. The piece of rubber everyone is talking about wedges in a metal ring against the support pole. More weight pushing down=more the wedge goes in. I have never seen them pushed to 600lb limit, but I have seen a lot put on them and NEVER had one fail.

I'd be weary in the long run with 55's, but it's your call. Also, 2x4 stands may be just as cheap, but I'd rather put my boxes of water on metal.
