do you trust hob overflows

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my DIY has never failed (1 year running)

some cheaper pre-mades leak or bleed air slowly and break siphon

i would drill the tanks these overflows cost $25-50 and some require lift pumps
to maintain siphon

don't drill it, just do it the DIY way.... PVC pipe.. there is a good pic of a pvc pipe Overflow. ..

Go to your LFS, and look at their setup.

I dont see why they have to be all at the same height. You can get ball valves to even things out.

You can stack them if you want to. I have had some problems with my pvc overflows (overflowing onto the floor). With hob overflows, you can always see inside them and see when they are about to stop working. With PVC pipe overflows you find out when they quit after the fact. I came home to 15-20 gallons of water soaked into my carpet about four times now. I now have a really good shop vac and an oversized dehumidifier.

sounds good.

if i was to set up multiple tanks on the same filtration i assume that they would all have to be at the same height, or am i wrong.

It eliminates a little of the balancing act, but not a necessity.

Problem solved...:D

I'm working on a sensor that will automatically turn on the shop vac if it senses water (I could have it turn off the water but that would make sense...just like fixing the overflows rather than buying a good shop vac :screwy:    ).
