As some of you may know, I've gotten rid of my fish because of a move. However, I've been allowed to get a fish. This is a thread dedicated to this fish. :)

Now, I know goldfish aren't the most popular on this website and are considered 'food', but I see something in them that I love. They're monsters in their own special way. They eat anything (including other fish), they eat A LOT, they poo A LOT lol, and they can achieve a respectable length of up to 16 inches.

So if you're still with me, I'll get down to business. Squiggles was 1.5" when I bought him and it's been about a week. He's now 2". Currently he resides in a 1g (Don't worry, proper upgrades will be made).

The 1g tank gets a 25% water change every other day. Squiggles gets fed 2 times a day. Breakfast consists of several types of flake food mixed together. Dinner consists of very tiny goldfish pellets.

I'm working on his next tank now, it's a 10g. I hope to make this a planted tank and overfilter it until I can get him into his 60g hex tank.

I would have to describe his color as being darker brown fading into gold fading into white. He has a purple-ish shine as well. I expect his colors to change as he grows and will note any changes in further updates.

Now, picture time! :D Enjoy

thats actually not a bad looking fish.. i would like to feed him to my bass though.

Thanks, I guess? I know to most people they're feeders but maybe if I show them in detail people might give them a little more respect. A lot of people on here forget that they started with goldfish and their interest sparked something that made them want to learn more and go bigger and explore this hobby. In a way, goldfish helped make this site great. They helped our hobby grow and thrive. So maybe we could think of them better.

I guess you could consider this a public service thread since it's now known goldfish make lousy feeders.
I had a couple feeder golds that grew up faster than they could be eaten and turned into some pretty impressive fish. they went outside, eventually, to become feeders for a heron. :(
everyone gets eaten eventually I suppose. unless you're pumped full of formaldehyde.
some nice color on it. it'll be interesting to see if he stays gold.

we purchased 3 goldfish at the petstore to throw in our rain barrel to keep the mosquito larve down, 3 months later i move them into a 29 gallon tank for the winter which i filled with a jack dempsey and a blue gill....its been a little over a year now and i have a 15 gallon with 2 african cichlid, a 75 with a green sunfish, tiger oscar, marble goby, and a blue gill1 so i totaly see where your coming from. cool thread thanks for posting!

I have a 5" dark orange goldfish in my pond with bluegill, green sunfish x bluegill hybrids, green sunfish, and a few other misc. fish. I got it as a feeder with 3 others (treat for my bluegill when it was in the 5.5) and they befriended eachother and its still thriving!

Sorry I've totally failed this thread. But atleast my little guy is growing and healthy and almost totally orange now. Let's see if I can get pics to work...
