I'm thinking of redoing my substrate with eco complete and 3M quartz sand. Does any of that change water chemistry? Also what do I need in the way of lights is it 3WPG? Thanks

No, the 3M ColorQuartz doesn't change water chemistry, It's ceramic (inert) coated quartz (also inert). I believe I"ve got it in about all of my 20+ tanks.
As far as lights-there's no rule in an unplanted tank. I just by the full spectrum fluorescent bulbs at WalMart for $6. The fish don't care and would probably be more comfortable with no lights at all. If it's a planted tank, I have no idea.
