Setting up my 150gal, and I don't want to put the slate slab in there if I don't have to. I have a Male Red Oscar, so do I still need a Piece of slate, like I keep hearing is a requirement for Females?

slate is in absolutely no way shape or form a requirement for any Oscar...

When breeding, females lay their eggs on a flat smooth surface. A piece of slate will serve as a flat smooth surface. If you look at my avatar the white dots on the bottom of the tank are Oscar eggs. In my tank, even though there was slate in the tank, the female Oscar chose to simply use the bottom of the tank.

If you don't want slate in the tank do not put slate in the tank...

Great! Thanks!
