Fall River Ma.
hello, i placed a pair of convicts in with my pair of FH.... i wanted them as dither fish...but now the cons are breeding....will this be an issue? also do you think that "dithers" (i think thats what they call the "bait" fish) really help?
thnx 4 reading u :headbang2!!!

Convicts are sex coaches??!! I don't think that fits their M.O. !! :D

a single dither can help get them to pair up. but you only want to use fish that you don't care if they die. what happens is they unite against a common enemy and sometimes gang up and kill the dither. if your fh are already paired up, i wouldn't bother with the dithers. a pair is a bad idea because two can gang up on your fh. you may lose some fins or eyes.

I would use a group of female cons not a breeding pair but its not really a problem except for the Cons once the FHs start breeding they will have a war for space with the Cons and unless the Cons are the same size or larger there not going to win the fight

i voted not at all, convict mating behavior can be extremely stressful to other fish, and thus, prevent them from breeding.
and even if you cut it back from two convicts to one, convicts are notorious for breeding with almost anything. If your flowerhorn laid eggs and the convict were male, it might try to fertilize them, if the convict were female, the flowerhorn may fertilize the eggs.
convict x flowerhorn fry sell for a very low price, if at all, so you can see why this may pose as a problem.
